Do not smoke or allow an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel system related components. The highly flammable vapor mixtures may ignite, resulting in serious personal injury.
Prior to disconnecting fuel lines, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spray of fuel.
Fuel System Pressure Relief
- Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine cover.
- Connect a suitable fuel pressure gauge to schraeder valve located on fuel rail. Wrap a shop towel around fitting to avoid fuel spillage.

It is possible to fit the driveshaft incorrectly. Note the orientation before removal.
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove exhaust system.
- Remove six Torx bolts and washers at transfer case drive flange, discard bolts. Mark position of driveshaft flange in relation to drive pinion flange.
- Release driveshaft from transfer case drive flange. To avoid damage to joint or gaiter, do not allow driveshaft to hang.

- Remove coolant expansion tank cap. Release cooling system pressure by slowly turning coolant expansion tank cap a quarter of a turn. Cover expansion tank cap with a thick cloth to prevent possibility of scalding. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, do not remove filler cap from coolant expansion tank while system is hot. Engine coolant will damage paint finished surfaces. If spilled, immediately remove coolant and clean area with water.
