When a Digital Monitor Electronics (DME) control module is replaced, it must be reprogrammed. The vehicle identification number, catalytic converter number corresponding to the catalytic converter version used and DME and immobilizer programming codes must be provided before programming DME.

- Connect battery ground cable. Ensure no one is in vehicle passenger compartment when connecting battery ground cable.
- From a safe position to side of air bag modules, turn ignition switch to On position and note air bag warning lamp operation.
- On 1990-93 911 and 968 models, warning lamp should be illuminated for approximately five seconds after ignition switch has been placed in On position and then go Off.
