DRIVELINE, U-JOINT & CV AXLES REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 1997 Subaru SVX AUTOMOBILES
Includes CV axle, universal joint, and driveline replacement, for domestic and imported 1997 Subaru SVX cars and light trucks from 1990+.
DRIVESHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 1997 Subaru SVX L 3.3 H6 GAS
Wrap metal parts with a cloth or rubber material. Rubber boot may be damaged due to interference with adjacent metal parts during removal.
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Place vehicle in neutral.
- Release parking brake.
- Raise and support vehicle and support it with safety stands in proper locations.
- Disconnect connector from rear oxygen sensor.
- Remove rear exhaust pipe and rear catalytic converter.
- Remove front exhaust cover.
- Place reference mark on front driveline and rear differential flange. Paint is recommended for match marks. Never damage rear driveline shaft flange yoke or c...

CV AXLE SHAFT, Replace -> Front -> Rear
Vehicle: 1997 Subaru SVX L 3.3 H6 GAS
Front
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Raise and support vehicle and support it with safety stands in proper locations.
- Remove wheel nuts and front wheels.
- Unstake hub nut using suitable tool.
- Remove driveshaft locknut from front hub while depressing brake pedal. Remove wheel before loosening axle nut.
- Remove stabilizer link from front arm.
- On models equipped with ABS, disconnect ABS harness clamp from strut.
- Disconnect brake hose clamp from strut.
- Place alignment marks on stabilizer lever and stabilizer and remove stabilizer lever.
