DRIVELINE, U-JOINT & CV AXLES REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 1997 Toyota Avalon AUTOMOBILES
Includes CV axle, universal joint, and driveline replacement, for domestic and imported 1997 Toyota Avalon cars and light trucks from 1990+.

Front
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
- Remove brake caliper and support with wire, then the rotor, Fig. .
- Place a dial indicator near center of axle hub and check backlash in bearing shaft direction, Fig. . If backlash is greater than .002 inch, replace bearing.
- Place a dial indicator at surface of axle hub outside hub bolt and check hub runout, Fig. . If runout is greater than .002 inch, replace axle hub.
- Install rotor and brake caliper, then remove driveshaft locknut while applying brakes.
- Remove brake caliper and support with wire. Remove rotor.
