Performance Test
- Set temperature switch to full cooling, then set A/C switch to On position.
- Set mode control switch to VENT, then the recirculation switch to REC.
- Set blower speed to MAX speed, then close hood, doors and windows.
- On 850 models, run engine at 1500-1600 RPM.
- On 960 models, run engine at 2000 RPM.
- On all models, place thermometer in center panel vent.
- Allow system to stabilize at least eight minutes, then check temperature. Refer to Fig. for system operating specifications and diagnosis.

- Using tool No. J-33939, or equivalent, hold clutch plate, then remove clutch assembly to shaft center bolt, Fig. .
- Using puller tool No. J-33944-A and forcing screw tool No. J-33944-4, or equivalents, remove driveplate, Fig. .
- Remove adjusting shims, Figs. and .
- Using snap ring pliers, remove snap ring.
- Remove pulley using a suitable puller, Fig. .
- Disconnect field coil lead wire, then remove field coil.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

- Remove wiper well, then the wiper motor mountings.
- Remove instrument panel outer mounting bolts.
- Remove two air bag assembly attaching screws from back side of steering wheel.
- Remove steering wheel attaching bolt from center of steering wheel.
- Loosen screw at end of plastic strap from "Park" position in steering wheel. Screw will now lock contact reel in zero position. Be careful not to turn steering wheel. If steering wheel is turned with plastic strap loosened, the lockpin will be sheared off.
