All engines have a reverse rotating (counterclockwise) water pump. The letter "R" is stamped into the back of the water pump impeller to identify this style of pump. The two-speed electric cooling fan, Fig. , is controlled by A/C system pressure and engine coolant temperature. The A/C compressor pressure transducer and engine coolant temperature sensor send signals to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which, in turn, activates the fan through a fan relay.
When A/C system is not operating, fan operating parameters are as follows:
