- Remove instrument cluster trim screws, then the trim.
- Tilt steering column down, then set parking brake and lock wheels.
- On models equipped with automatic transmission, place transmission in Low.
- On all models, remove lefthand dash panel sound insulator, Fig. .
- Disconnect Data Link Connector (DLC), then remove RKE/delay module.
- Remove center dash panel sound insulator, Fig. .

Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings.
Do not allow any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that linings be replaced in sets when worn or damaged.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.

Observe and accurately reference mark the positions of all driveline components relative to the propeller shaft prior to disassembly. These components include the propeller shafts, drive axles, pinion flange, inner axle shafts, etc. Reassemble all components in the exact relationship the components had to one another prior to disassembly. Follow the specifications, torque values and any measurement made prior to disassembly in order to maintain the factory system balance of the driveline components. System balance provides a smoother running driveline operation.

Upon removal of starter, note if any shims are used. If shims are used, they should be installed in their original locations. After installation, if starter is noisy during cranking, remove one .015 inch double shim or add one .015 inch single shim to the outer bolt. If starter makes a high pitched whine after firing, add .015 inch double shims until noise ceases.
