These models use an engine coolant temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor, A/C "ON" signal and A/C pressure signal to input signals to the ECM. The module uses these input signals to open and close the two coolant fan relays.
With vehicle speed below 12 mph, A/C switch off, A/C triple-pressure switch off and engine coolant temperature below 203°F, both relays will remain open and cooling fans should be off. - Drain engine coolant.
- Disconnect radiator upper and lower hoses, Fig. .
- On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove automatic transmission oil cooler lines.
- On all models, remove radiator shroud.
- Disconnect reservoir tank hose.
- Lift radiator out of vehicle carefully to avoid damage.
- Reverse procedure to install.

- Drain engine and radiator coolant.
- Remove cylinder block drain plug, then the right engine mounting, mounting bracket and nuts.
- Remove drive belts and idler pulley bracket.
- Remove chain tensioner cover and water pump cover, Fig. .
- Push timing chain tensioner sleeve, install stopper pin and remove chain tensioner assembly.
- Remove three water pump attaching bolts, then turn crankshaft 20° counterclockwise to create gap between water pump gear and timing chain.
