Refer to Figs. through , for master cylinder overhaul procedures, noting the following:
- If piston assembly is stuck in cylinder bore, gradually apply air to fluid outlet port.
- Replace stopper cap if claws are damaged. Bend claw inward when installing new stopper.
Cleaning & Inspection
Examine reservoirs for foreign matter and check all passages for restrictions. If there is any indication of contamination or evidence of corrosion, service the hydraulic system as needed.

- Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheels.
- Disconnect brake hose from brake tube.
- Remove caliper assembly from spindle.
- Reverse procedure to install.
Overhaul
- Remove pin bolts and separate cylinder body from torque member.
- Remove pad retainers, shims and brake pads.
- Feed compressed air gradually into caliper port and force out piston(s) with dust seals.
- Remove piston seals, sub pins, main pins and dust seals.
- Reverse procedure to assemble.
