The two-speed electric cooling fan, Fig. , is controlled by A/C system pressure and engine coolant temperature. The A/C compressor pressure transducer and engine coolant temperature sensor send signals to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which, in turn, activates the fan through a fan relay.

When A/C system is not operating, fan operating parameters are as follows:

  • Fan will run on low speed when coolant temperature reaches 220°F and will stop when temperature falls to 210°F.

Except 1999-2002

If battery cable has been disconnected, the PCM must relearn a new operating strategy. Connect battery cable and run engine until operating temperature is reached. After engine warm-up, drive vehicle under various operating conditions until PCM has relearned new strategy.
