- Remove bar fixed between spring struts, then the air canister over throttle body.
- Remove master cylinder as outlined under "Hydraulic Brake Systems."
- Remove brake servo vacuum hose.
- Disconnect electrical distribution box and move aside.
- Remove four brake servo retaining nuts from bracket.
- Remove rubber gaiter from bulkhead partition and pull it toward servo container.
- Disconnect pushrod clip, then the brake servo container.
- Reverse procedure to install. Ensure brake pipe connections do not leak.

When working on any hydraulic brake components it is extremely important to keep the work area clean. Clean any parts that are to be reused with new brake fluid or a cleaning fluid specifically designed for hydraulic components. Wipe all parts dry using clean lint-free paper or cloth. Gaskets, seals, O-rings and rubber components should not be reused. Prior to assembly, all components should be generously lubricated with clean brake fluid.

Because the brakes are self-adjusting, it is impossible to tell from the brake pedal stroke whether the linings are worn. The lining thickness should be checked at specified intervals as outlined in "Vehicle Maintenance Schedule" section.
When vehicle is serviced, the brake pads must be replaced before lining thickness falls below .2 inches (5 mm).

The servo (booster) unit, Fig. , provides power assistance to the pedal effort applied. The servo obtains its power from vacuum created in the engine inlet manifold and provides assistance in a ratio of about 4 to 1. Should a vacuum failure occur, the two pushrods will act as a single rod, allowing brakes to work conventionally but with a much greater pedal effort.
