- Remove air cleaner case assembly as follows:
- Disconnect air intake temperature sensor connector.
- Disconnect four air cleaner cap clips.
- Disconnect air cleaner hose from throttle body and remove air cleaner cap and filter element.
- Remove three air cleaner case retaining bolts, then case.
- Remove engine compartment relay box as follows:
- Remove two relay box retaining nuts and disconnect relay box from battery.

STARTER & ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 1998 Toyota Celica AUTOMOBILES

With Air Conditioning
- Disconnect wire from clamp on rear end cover.
- Disconnect alternator connector.
- Remove rubber cap and nut, and disconnect alternator wire.
- Loosen adjusting lock bolt and pivot bolt.
- Remove drive belt.
- Remove adjusting lock bolt and pivot bolt.
- Remove alternator from vehicle.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torque pivot bolt to 40 ft. lbs.
- Torque adjusting lock bolt or adjusting bolt to 14 ft. lbs.
- Torque B+ terminal nut to 87 inch lbs.
