- Remove master cylinder as outlined under "Master Cylinder, Replace" in "Hydraulic Brake Systems."
- Remove charcoal vapor canister as necessary.
- Remove brake booster vacuum hose.
- On Supra models, remove pedal bracket stay.
- On all models, remove pedal return spring, clip, clevis pin and clevis locknut, Fig. .
- Remove brake booster nuts. Pull out booster and gasket.
Installation
- Adjust length of booster pushrod as follows:
- Install gasket on master cylinder.

- On Land Cruiser models, ensure center differential is free.
- On all models, turn ignition switch to On position.
- Disconnect short pin from Data Link Connector 1 (DLC1).
- Connect terminals Tc and E1 or CG of DLC1 or DLC3 using tool No. 09843-18020, or equivalent, Figs. through .
- Read and record number of times ANTI-LOCK warning lamp flashes.
- If system is operating properly, (no faults) warning lamp will blink once every .25 seconds.
- Connect actuator check connector and ensure proper operation.

- Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove brake drum. If brake drum cannot be remove easily, insert a suitable screwdriver through hole in backing plate, then push adjuster lever away from adjuster and back of adjustment tension.
- Disconnect return spring, then remove front shoe hold-down spring, retainers and pin.
- Disconnect anchor spring, then remove front brake shoe and anchor spring, Fig. .
