Accessing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
The ABS control unit has a permanent fault memory. If fault conditions occur at electrically monitored sensors or components they are stored in memory.
Faults are stored with varying priorities. Solenoid faults have the highest priority and are displayed first. Faults which occur occasionally or sporadic faults have the lowest priority and are displayed last.
Do not drive vehicle with VAG 1551 or equivalent scan tool connected.

- Remove drive axle retaining nut while vehicle is still on ground.
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel.
- Remove noise insulator panel retainers, then insulators.
- Mark position of bolts attaching ball joints to control arms, then remove bolts and separate ball joint from control arm. Discard bolts.
- Remove drive axle to transaxle drive flange attaching bolts.
- Mount a suitable puller tool onto hub assembly and press axle shaft out of hub. Do not flex CV or tripod joints more than 25° from their original angles.
