Although the compressor must be removed from its mount in order to replace the clutch assembly, it is not necessary to recover A/C refrigerant.
- Using a suitable band type oil filter wrench to prevent clutch plate rotation, remove compressor shaft bolt, Fig. .
- Using a suitable plastic hammer, tap clutch plate, then remove plate and shims, Fig. .
- Remove pulley retaining ring using snap ring tool No. C-4574, or equivalent, then slide pulley off compressor. Do not pry on clutch plate or pulley.

If the heater core has leaked a significant amount of coolant, the entire heater and A/C housing must be removed as described under "Heater & A/C Housing, Replace" and cleaned thoroughly. If leakage is minimal or if no leaks have occurred, the heater core may be serviced inside the vehicle.
