BRAKE SERVICE PROCEDURES FOR 1999 Daewoo Lanos AUTOMOBILES

One-Piece
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire.
- Remove drum to spindle split pin and castle nut. Discard split pin.
- Remove drum.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Inspect hub bearing, then pack with wheel bearing grease part No. 1051344, or equivalent.
- Inspect drum for scoring and cracks and replace as required.
- Measure drum and compare findings to "Drum Brake Specifications" chart.
- Install brake drum and secure with castle nut.
- On Nubira and 1999-2000 Lanos models, torque castle nut to 15 ft. lbs....

Disassemble
- Separate fluid reservoir from master cylinder main body. Discard seals.
- Remove cylinder bore sealing ring. Avoid damaging cylinder wall or piston.
- Insert a clean welding rod or similar item into a compensating port to keep piston pressed down.
- Remove and discard retaining ring using a suitable screwdriver.
- Remove primary piston.
- Remove secondary piston and spring.
Assemble
- Clean all components with clean brake fluid or denatured alcohol. Do not use any abrasives in the bore.
- Dry all components with compressed air.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Mark wheel to hub orientation, then remove wheel and tire.
- Remove brake fluid hose to caliper mounting bolt and washers, then the hose. Plug hose end and caliper port to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove caliper mounting bolts, then the caliper.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Tighten all nuts and bolts to specifications.
- Bleed brakes as outlined under "Brake System Bleed."
- Do not move vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained.
- Depress brake pedal several times to bring pads into contact with rotor.

- Disconnect master cylinder reservoir cap electrical connector.
- Disconnect brake lines at master cylinder. Plug lines to prevent fluid contamination.
- On models equipped with manual transaxle, disconnect clutch cylinder hose connection at brake fluid reservoir, then plug to prevent fluid leakage and contamination.
- On all models, remove master cylinder mounting nuts, then the master cylinder.
- Remove and discard master cylinder to booster housing seal.
