- Deplete brake booster reserve by depressing brake pedal several times with ignition Off.
- Fill master cylinder reservoir with proper brake fluid. Keep reservoir at least half full during bleeding operation.
- If master cylinder is suspected of having air in its bore, bleed as follows:
- Disconnect front brake line at master cylinder.
- Allow brake fluid to fill master cylinder until it begins flowing from front pipe connector port, then connect line and tighten securely.
- Have an assistant slowly depress brake pedal once and hold.

One-Piece
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire.
- Remove drum to spindle split pin and castle nut. Discard split pin.
- Remove drum.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Inspect hub bearing, then pack with wheel bearing grease part No. 1051344, or equivalent.
- Inspect drum for scoring and cracks and replace as required.
- Measure drum and compare findings to "Drum Brake Specifications" chart.
- Install brake drum and secure with castle nut.
- On Nubira and 1999-2000 Lanos models, torque castle nut to 15 ft. lbs....

Brake System Bleed
Replacement modulators are already filled and bled. Air usually will not enter the modulator during normal procedures that require EBCM replacement. Normal bleeding would be required in such cases. Refer to " Brake System Bleed" in the "Hydraulic Brake Systems" section.
If air enters the hydraulic modulator or if a modulator is installed in an unfilled condition, use a suitable scan tool and follow the brake bleeding program prompts. The modulator cannot be bled manually.
