BRAKE SERVICE PROCEDURES FOR 2000 Dodge Avenger AUTOMOBILES

Disc Brakes -> Type 2 -> Caliper Service -> Overhaul -> Replacement

Replacement
- Remove brake pads, as outlined under "Brake Pad Service."
- Disconnect brake hose at brake caliper, then cap brake line.
- Reverse procedure to install.
Overhaul
- Remove caliper assembly as outlined under "Replacement."
- Remove caliper support, Fig. .
- Remove pin boots and boot ring.
- Position a suitable wood block in caliper body, then apply compressed air through brake hose fitting hole to remove piston and dust boot. Apply air gently.
- Remove piston seal using finger tip.

Stop Lamp Switch
- Release stop lamp switch from bracket by rotating it 30° counterclockwise.
- Disconnect stop lamp switch wiring harness connector.
- Pull outward on stop lamp switch plunger until fully extended.
- Depress brake pedal, holding down in place.
- Install stop lamp switch onto bracket by aligning index key on switch with slot at top of square hole.
- Rotate switch 30° clockwise to lock switch into bracket, Fig. .
- Connect wiring harness connector to stop lamp switch.
- Pull back on brake pedal until pedal stops moving to allow switch plunger to ratchet to correct position.

Avenger
- Install suitable pressure gauges, one each on input side and output side of proportioning valve.
- Bleed brake line and pressure gauge, then gradually depress brake pedal and observe gauge.
- Observe left and righthand output pressures.
- Pressure difference between left and right sides should not be more than 57 psi.
- Refer to "Hydraulic Brake Control Specifications."
- If pressure is not within specifications, replace proportioning valve.
