Disc Brakes -> Front Disc Brakes -> Description -> Dual Piston Calipers -> Single Piston Calipers
Vehicle: 2000 Lincoln LS 3.9 V8 GAS
Single Piston Calipers
The caliper assembly consists of a pin sliding caliper housing, inner and outer shoe and lining assemblies and a single piston, Figs. and . The caliper slides on two pins which also act as attaching bolts between caliper and the combination anchor plate and spindle. The outer brake shoe and lining assembly is longer than the inner brake shoe and lining assembly. Inner and outer shoe and lining assemblies are attached to the caliper by spring clips riveted to the shoe surfaces. Power Brake Units -> Description -> Bendix Diaphragm Types -> Bendix Hydro-Boost System -> Operation -> Vacuum Assist Diaphragm Type
Vehicle: 2000 Lincoln LS 3.0 V6 GAS
Vacuum Assist Diaphragm Type
The vacuum assist diaphragm assembly multiplies the force exerted on the master cylinder piston in order to increase the hydraulic pressure delivered to the wheel cylinders while decreasing the effort necessary to obtain acceptable stopping performance.
Vacuum assist units get their energy by opposing engine vacuum to atmospheric pressure. A piston, cylinder and flexible diaphragm utilize this energy to provide brake assistance. The diaphragm is balanced with engine vacuum until the brake pedal is depressed, allowing atmospheric pressure to unbalance the u...

Disc Brakes -> Front Disc Brakes -> Brake System Bleed -> System Priming -> Wheel Bleeding Sequence
Vehicle: 2000 Lincoln LS 3.0 V6 GAS
Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic disc brake systems.
Do not reuse brake fluid drained from the hydraulic system when bleeding the brakes. Ensure disc brake pistons are returned to their normal positions and the shoe and lining assemblies are properly seated.
Do not shake the pressure bleeder tank while air is being added or after it has been pressurized. This will prevent air from the tank getting into the lines. Do not move the tank during the bleeding operation. The tank should be kept at least one third full.
On models equipped with power brakes, exhaust the...

Remove wheels and inspect brake disc, caliper and linings. Inspect wheel bearings and repack if required.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
If caliper is removed when installing new components, clean all components in alcohol, then wipe dry using lint-free cloths. Blow out drilled passages and bores with compressed air. Inspect dust boots for punctures or tears, replace as required.
