  • Siphon enough brake fluid out of master cylinder to bring fluid level to 1/3 full to avoid fluid overflow when caliper pistons are pushed back into bores.
  • Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
  • Mark relationship between wheel to hub and bearing assembly.
  • Push pistons back together into caliper bores using a suitable C-clamp and, if required, a block of wood.

System Operation

The Bosch Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) with Traction Control System (TCS) minimizes wheel lock-up during heavy braking on most road surfaces to improve driver control. ABS monitors each wheel's speed and controls brake fluid pressure to each front wheel independently and both rear wheels simultaneously.

A separate hydraulic line and solenoid valve for each front wheel, and one hydraulic line and solenoid valve for both rear wheels allow hydraulic pressure to be modulated, preventing wheel lock-up. The ABS can decrease, hold or increase hydraulic pressure.

Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic systems. However, if a pressure bleeder is unavailable, use the following procedure. Brake fluid damages painted surfaces. Immediately clean any spilled fluid.

  • Remove vacuum reserve by pumping brakes several times with engine off.
  • Fill master cylinder reservoir with clean brake fluid. Check fluid level often during bleeding procedure, do not let reservoir fall below half full.
  • If necessary, bleed master cylinder as follows:
    • Disconnect front EBTCM pipe fitting at master cylinder.
