- Check cooling fan operation with temperature below 181°F as follows:
- Turn ignition switch to On.
- Check that cooling fan stops. If not, check cooling fan relay and ECT switch and check for separated connector or severed wire between cooling fan relay and ECT switch.
- Disconnect No. 1 ECT switch connector.
- Check that cooling fan operates. If not, check the fuses, engine main relay, cooling fan relay, cooling fan and check for a short between cooling fan relay and ECT switch.

- Using tool No. J-33939, or equivalent, hold clutch plate, then remove clutch assembly to shaft center bolt, Fig. .
- Using puller tool No. J-33944-A and forcing screw tool No. J-33944-4, or equivalents, remove driveplate, Fig. .
- Remove adjusting shims, Figs. and .
- Using snap ring pliers, remove snap ring.
- Remove pulley using a suitable puller, Fig. .
- Disconnect field coil lead wire, then remove field coil.
