This procedure must be performed if the BCM, Passlock sensor or PCM is replaced. If BCM is not properly programmed, it will not control all the features properly.
- Ensure battery is fully charged and ignition switch is in the ON position.
- Connect a suitably programmed Tech II, or equivalent, scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Access scan tool "Special Functions" menu and follow scan tool instructions to program BCM.

- Remove brake pipes from master cylinder. Plug pipes to prevent fluid contamination.
- Remove master cylinder attaching nuts and position master cylinder aside.
- Disconnect stop lamp switch electrical connector.
- Remove stop lamp switch retainer from brake pedal pin, then the stop lamp switch from brake pedal support.
- Disconnect power brake unit pushrod from brake pedal.
- Remove attaching nuts, then the power brake unit.
- Reverse procedure to install.
- Torque booster retaining nuts to 27 ft. lbs.
- Torque master cylinder retaining nuts to 27 ft. lbs.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove front differential carrier shield, if used.
- Reference mark relationship of propeller shaft to front axle and transfer case flange.
- Remove bolts and retainers from front axle.
- Remove bolts and retainers from transfer case.
- Remove propeller shaft. When removing propeller shaft, do not attempt to remove shaft by pounding on yoke ears or using a tool between yoke and universal joint. If propeller shaft is removed by using such means, injection joints may fracture and lead to premature failure of joint.

Upon removal of starter, note if any shims are used. If shims are used, they should be installed in their original locations. After installation, if starter is noisy during cranking, remove one .015 inch double shim or add one .015 inch single shim to the outer bolt.
