- Disconnect ABS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) harness electrical connector.
- Remove lower instrument panel trim panel below steering column. Trim panel screws are accessed by removing two square screw covers.
- Remove ABS ECU mounting screws, Fig. , then the ECU.
- Reverse procedure to install.
1998-2001
- Disconnect ECU electrical connectors.
- Remove ECU bracket to fender mounting nuts.
- Remove ECU to HCU mounting bolts.

- Tighten bolts and nuts to specifications.

- On Rio models, distance from top center of brake pedal to floor mat should be 6.69-6.93 inches.
- On Sephia and Spectra models, distance from top center of brake pedal to floor mat should be 7.60-7.72 inches.
- On all models, disconnect brake pedal switch electrical connector (E), Fig. .
- Loosen locknuts (B) and turn switch (A) until it does not contact pedal.
- Loosen locknuts (D) and turn rod (C) to adjust height of brake pedal.
- Tighten brake pedal switch until plunger is completely compressed, then rotate additional 1/2 turn and tighten locknuts.
