Electronic Control Unit
A4, A6, S4 & S6
The electronic control unit is located beneath the lefthand side of the rear seat.
- Turn ignition Off.
- Remove rear seat.
- Remove spring retaining electrical connector, then disconnect electrical connector.
- Remove screws securing control unit.
- Reverse procedure to install.
A8 & S8
- Remove lower slot cover from between knee bolster and lower column cover.
- Remove knee bolster.
- Remove ABS control module.
- Disconnect ABS control module electrical harness connector.
- Reverse procedure to install.

- Force piston, Fig. , out of brake caliper using compressed air, Fig. . Apply air pressure gradually to guard against sudden expulsion. Place a suitable wooden block into caliper recess to prevent piston damage.
- Remove piston seal using wedge tool No. 3409, or equivalent, Fig. . Avoid damaging bore surface.
- Install piston as follows:
- Clean piston and seal with methylated spirits.
- Apply thin coat of paste part No. G 052 150 A2, or equivalent, to piston and seal before installation.

Hydraulic Booster/Servo
- Remove master cylinder as outlined under "Hydraulic Brake System."
- Disconnect hydraulic lines from booster/servo.
- Remove brake booster/servo attaching bolts.
- Disconnect booster pushrod from brake pedal.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Adjust pushrod length to 9.04-9.08 inches from face of booster/servo unit to center of clevis hole.
- Torque booster mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs.

To bleed brake system, use a catch bottle with a transparent hose attached so brake fluid can be inspected for air bubbles.
