- Disconnect mode control motor connector.
- Connect battery power to terminal No. 1 and ground to terminal No. 2, Fig. . Motor should run smoothly and stop at VENT position.
- Reverse connections and motor should run smoothly and stop at DEFROST position.
- When mode control motor stops running, disconnect battery power immediately.

Air Conditioning Thermostat
- Remove thermostat.
- Apply battery voltage to terminal C and ground to terminal B, then connect a suitable 12-volt, 3-18 watt test lamp between terminals A and C, Fig. .
- On Civic models equipped with serpentine evaporator, and Odyssey and Prelude models, test lamp should go Off at 36-39°F or less, and come On at 39-41°F or more.

- Remove center nut, Fig. , while holding armature plate with holding tool No. J37872, Fig. , or equivalent.
- Remove armature plate by pulling upward.
- Remove inner snap ring with suitable snap ring pliers.
- Remove rotor pulley with suitable two or three jaw puller.
- Ensure claws of puller are engaged on back of rotor pulley, not on belt area, or rotor pulley damage may occur.
