  • Remove master cylinder as outlined under "Master Cylinder, Replace" in "Hydraulic Brake Systems."
  • Remove charcoal vapor canister as necessary.
  • Remove brake booster vacuum hose.
  • On Supra models, remove pedal bracket stay.
  • On all models, remove pedal return spring, clip, clevis pin and clevis locknut, Fig. .
  • Remove brake booster nuts. Pull out booster and gasket.
Installation
  • Adjust length of booster pushrod as follows:
    • Install gasket on master cylinder.
    • Install brake booster pushrod gauge tool No. 09737-00010, or equivalent...

  • Remove rear caliper.

  • Remove shoe return springs, Figs. and .
  • Using strut remover 09717-20010, or equivalent, remove shoe strut and spring.
  • Slide front shoe from under shoe hold-down spring, then remove shoe adjusting screw, tension spring and remove shoe.
  • Slide rear from shoe hold-down spring, then disconnect parking brake cable from shoe lever.
  • Apply non-melting grease on brake backing plate shoe flats, then on shoe sliding surface.
