- Secure master cylinder assembly in a suitable vise.
- Remove reservoir cap, Fig. , then drain brake fluid into a suitable container.
- Remove fluid level sensor.
- Separate reservoir from master cylinder. Discard seals.
- Push primary piston into cylinder bore to ease snap ring removal, then remove snap ring and piston.
- Push secondary piston into bore, then remove secondary piston stop screw.
- Place a suitable shop towel in bore to catch secondary piston.
- Remove secondary piston using compressed air through port. Do not disassemble primary and secondary piston assembly.

- On 2003-04 Spectra models, distance from top center of brake pedal to floor mat should be 7.60-7.72 inches.
- On 2005 Spectra models, distance from top center of brake pedal to floor mat should be 7.24 inches.
- On all models, disconnect brake pedal switch electrical connector (E), Fig. .

- Remove wheel/tire assembly.
- Remove brake hose from caliper.
- Remove caliper assembly by removing the torque plate.
Disassemble
- Loosen attaching bolts and separate caliper.
- Remove boot ring, using screwdriver.
- Remove piston boot, Fig. .
- Remove piston by applying compressed air through brake hose fitting hose. Keep fingers clear of front of piston.
- Remove piston seal. Use caution not to damage the cylinder walls.
- Apply suitable brake fluid to the cylinder walls.
