DRIVELINE, U-JOINT & CV AXLES REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2004 Land Rover Freelander AUTOMOBILES
Includes CV axle, universal joint, and driveline replacement, for domestic and imported 2004 Land Rover Freelander cars and light trucks from 1990+.
CV AXLE SHAFT, Replace -> Front -> Rear
Vehicle: 2004 Land Rover Freelander 2.5 V6 GAS
FRONT
- Remove center cap from front wheel, release stake from driveshaft nut, then loosen nut.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove caliper, disc and disc shield.
- Disconnect ABS sensor electrical connector then remove ABS sensor and bushing from hub.
- Remove four bolts securing hub to carrier.
- Remove hub from carrier, then hub and driveshaft.
- Remove driveshaft nut, then the shaft assembly from hub.
- Remove driveshaft seal from axle casing.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torque hub and driveshaft bolts to 100 ft. lbs.
- Torque driveshaft nut to 192 ft. lbs.
- Torque wheel lug ...

DRIVESHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 2004 Land Rover Freelander 2.5 V6 GAS
Front
- Disconnect negative cable from battery.
- Raise and support front of vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove underbelly panel.
- Remove three bolts and remove splash shield.
- Remove stake from drive shaft nut.
- With an assistant applying the brakes, remove and discard drive shaft nut.
- Remove clip securing brake hose and release hose from damper bracket.
- Release ABS sensor harness and brake hose from damper.
- Release ABS sensor from hub.
- Remove two bolts securing brake caliper to hub. Release caliper from hub and tie aside. Do not allow caliper to hang on brake hose.
