R-134a systems require the use of special service equipment designed specifically for R-134a systems. R-12 servicing equipment cannot be used on R-134a systems.
R-12 recovery stations cannot be used on R-134a systems. A separate recovery station must be used on R-134a systems. The refrigerants are not compatible and will contaminate the R-12 recovery station.
The use of refrigerant recovery and recycling stations allows the recovery and reuse of refrigerant after contaminants and moisture have been removed.
When using a recovery or recycling station...

While a detailed diagnostic procedure for all air conditioning systems would be impractical due to the many variations in construction and operation, there are three fundamental components of a total diagnosis:
- Refrigerant systems must have an adequate, but not excessive charge.
- Determination must be made whether the refrigerant system is governed by a cycling clutch compressor or by valves which control evaporator pressure.
- The air distribution system (blower motor, switches, vacuum lines and air ducts) must be operational before checking the ...

Vehicle: 2004 Toyota Prius 1.5 L4 ELECTRIC/GAS
Using Vacuum Pump
Vacuum pumps suitable for removing air and moisture from A/C systems are commercially available. A specification for system pump down used here is 28-291/2 inches vacuum. This reading can be attained at or near sea level only. For each 1000 feet of altitude this operation is performed, the reading will be 1 inch vacuum higher. For example, at 5000 feet elevation, only 23-241/2 inches of vacuum can be obtained. The system refrigerant must be completely recovered before it can be evacuated. Damage to the vacuum pump will result if pressurized ...
