Hydraulic brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. If fluid gets on painted surface, wipe clean immediately.

- Disconnect master cylinder electrical connectors.
- Clean away dirt and debris from master cylinder brake line fittings.
- Disconnect master cylinder brake lines using flare nut wrench tool No. 0K130 430 019, or equivalent. Plug open fittings to prevent contamination.
- Remove master cylinder mounting nuts, then the master cylinder from vehicle.

- Remove wheel/tire assembly.
- Remove brake hose from caliper.
- Remove caliper assembly by removing the torque plate.
Disassemble
- Loosen attaching bolts and separate caliper.
- Remove boot ring, using screwdriver.
- Remove piston boot, Fig. .
- Remove piston by applying compressed air through brake hose fitting hose. Keep fingers clear of front of piston.
- Remove piston seal. Use caution not to damage the cylinder walls.
- Apply suitable brake fluid to the cylinder walls.

- Remove brake drum. If drum is difficult to remove, screw in bolts to pull drum out, Fig. .
- Remove end shoe springs, cylinder and hold-down spring.
- Remove shoes and adjuster as an assembly.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Apply suitable grease to backing plate shoe contact surfaces.
- Install shoe hold-down pin, then assemble return spring with the strut or pushrod shortened.
- Pull parking brake lever fully upward. Repeat process several times.
