- Disconnect and plug hydraulic lines.
- Remove mounting nuts and master cylinder.
- Remove reservoir cover and diaphragm. Discard old brake fluid.
- Inspect cover and diaphragm.
- Remove fluid level switch.
- On models equipped with compact master cylinder,remove proportioning valve, Fig. .

- Release parking brake.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove rear wheels.
- Remove brake drum. Do not pry against brake backing plate.
- Remove lower return spring, Fig. .
- Remove adjuster spring.
- Remove leading brake shoe hold-down, spring and pin.
- Remove adjuster assembly and lever. If difficult, pull leading shoe toward front of vehicle and or turn star wheel on adjuster to shorten length.
- Twist shoe from upper return spring engagement to remove.
- Remove parking brake shoe upper return spring.

System Operation
