STARTER & ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2006 Volvo XC90 AUTOMOBILES
Includes starter and alternator replacement procedures for domestic and imported 2006 Volvo XC90 cars and light trucks from 1990+.
Alternator, Replace
Vehicle: 2006 Volvo XC90 V8 Ocean Race 4.4 V8 GAS
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Pull up on engine cover and slide away from engine compartment to remove.
- Remove bolt securing ground cable between engine and body between coolant reservoir and engine.
- Remove bolts on cover securing servo pump.
- Remove nut from servo line clamp and remove bolts securing servo oil line. Cover feed pipe openings and wipe up any spills. Discard old gasket and replace new gasket upon installation.
- Rotate or lift belt tensioner arm clockwise, using a suitable tool to relieve tension from drive belt.
- Remove drive belt.
- Disconnect vacuum hoses.

STARTER & ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2006 Volvo XC90 AUTOMOBILES

Vehicle: 2006 Volvo XC90 V8 Ocean Race 4.4 V8 GAS
- Disconnect both battery cables.
- Raise vehicle on suitable lift.
- Remove bolts securing suspension turrets.
- Remove bolts for upper engine mount on engine and remove upper cross stay mount.
- Open coolant reservoir cap.
- Remove bolts securing skid plate and lift forward to remove skid plate. There is a guide sleeve on upper mounting of skid plate. Skid plate must be lifted upward slightly in order to slide skid plate forward.
- Open drain plug on lower left bottom of radiator. Drain coolant in clean suitable container.
- Lower vehicle.
- Disconnect ECM connector.

- Rotate or lift belt tensioner arm counterclockwise, using a suitable tool to relieve tension from drive belt.
- Remove drive belt.
- Loosen clamps and remove power steering pump hoses. Drain fluid in a clean suitable container. Avoid skin contact with power steering fluid.
- Remove cold air inlet hose to control module.
- Loosen bolt on power steering line lock bracket.
- Loosen pipe nipple on pump.
