Brake System Bleed
ABS Automated Bleed
The base hydraulic brake system must be bled before performing this automated bleeding procedure.
- Connect a suitable scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Start engine and allow engine to idle.
- Follow instructions on scan tool to access automated bleed procedure.
- Apply brake pedal when instructed by scan tool.
- Turn ignition off and remove scan tool from vehicle.

Power Brake Units -> Delco Brake Booster -> Description -> Operation -> Single Diaphragm Type -> Tandem (Dual) Diaphragm Type
Vehicle: 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 6.0 V8 GAS
In order to properly service power brake systems, a thorough understanding of the various power assist systems is required. These systems provide a mechanical assist, acting to increase the force applied to the master cylinder piston by the driver while decreasing the effort required to obtain acceptable stopping performance. Two basic types of power assist mechanisms are used: vacuum assist diaphragm assemblies which use engine vacuum and in some cases vacuum from an external vacuum pump, and hydraulic assist assemblies which use hydraulic pressure developed by an external pump (us...

Hydraulic Brake Systems -> Adjustments -> Height Sensing Proportioning Valve
Vehicle: 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LT 5.3 V8 GAS
Height Sensing Proportioning Valve
The height sensing proportioning valve must be adjusted whenever the valve and/or linkage is disassembled or removed for service. In addition, adjustment should be inspected if excessive front wheel lock-up is experienced with a lower than desired brake application rate when vehicle is at or near maximum GVWR.
- Raise and support vehicle, leave wheels on and allow axle to hang freely.
- Remove lever retaining nut and disconnect lever from valve shaft, Fig. .
- Rotate valve shaft to permit installation of correct adjustment gauge, Fig. , ensure D shaped hol...

Anti-Lock Brakes -> Bosch ABS/EBD/TCS/VSES -> Description
Vehicle: 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LS 5.3 V8 FLEX
The Bosch ABS/EBD/TCS/VSES system consists of the following vehicle performance enhancement systems: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS); Bi-State Engine Mount (BSM); Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD); Traction Control System (TCS); Variable Effort Steering (VES); Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES). The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) is serviced separately. The BPMV uses a 4 circuit configuration to control hydraulic pressure to each wheel independently.
When wheel slip is detected during a brake application, the ABS enters an...

Disc Brakes -> Delco Dual Piston Sliding Caliper -> Precautions -> Brake Disc Service -> Brake Lines & Linings -> Brake Roughness -> General
Vehicle: 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 5.3 V8 FLEX
Brake Lines & Linings
Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings.
Do not allow any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that linings be replaced in sets when worn or damaged.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
Brake Roughness
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in thickness of the disc. If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pumping is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive thickness v...
