DRIVELINE, U-JOINT & CV AXLES REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2007 Mazda CX-7 AUTOMOBILES

DRIVESHAFT U-JOINT, Replace -> Assembly -> Disassemble

Disassemble
- Place driveshaft on suitable workbench. Do not damage driveshaft when servicing on workbench. Ensure driveline and components are reference marked to prevent driveline imbalance.
- Mark driveline components.
- Clamp u-joint using suitable tool in vise.
- Remove snap rings. If necessary, use a pair of pliers to remove bearing cup if it cannot be pressed out all the way.
- Remove driveshaft slip yoke.
- Position driveshaft slip yoke using suitable tool.
- Press out bearing cup.
- Rotate driveshaft slip yoke.
- Press spider to remove remaining bearing cup.

Disassemble

- Mark front companion flange to front driveline.
- Mark transfer case companion flange to front driveline.
- Remove front driveline shaft to transfer case bolts and retainers.
- Remove front driveline shaft-to-front axle bolts.
- Remove driveline.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torquefront driveline transfer case bolts to 13 ft. lbs.

CV AXLE SHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 2007 Mazda CX-7 Grand Touring 2.3 L4 GAS
- Ensure vehicle transmission is in neutral.
- Raise and support vehicle and support it with safety stands in proper locations.
- Remove wheel nuts and front wheels.
- Remove hub nut and washer and discard. Do not allow disc brake caliper to suspend freely from brake hose. Support caliper using mechanics wire.
- Remove front disc brake caliper, anchor plate, and pads as an assembly and position assembly aside.
- Remove brake disc. Do not use a hammer to separate outboard CV joint from wheel hub. Damage to outboard CV joint stub shaft threads and internal CV joint components may result.
