Front
When mechanical force is applied by the driver to the brake pedal, the force is converted into hydraulic pressure by the master cylinder. The hydraulic force is directed to the front disc brake calipers and transferred to the brake pads. The brake pads are then forced against the brake friction surfaces by the brake caliper pistons. The friction of the brake pads on the brake disc causes the slowing of wheel rotation and the vehicle. Fig. .
Rear
When mechanical force is applied by the driver to the brake pedal, the force is converted into hydraulic pressure by the maste...

Vehicle: 2007 Mercury Monterey Luxury 4.2 V6 GAS
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) module, with or without stability assist, simultaneously manages the anti-lock braking, traction control and engine control systems to maintain vehicle control during deceleration and acceleration. The ABS accomplishes this by communicating with the other modules over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) bus.
When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the module carries out a preliminary electrical check and, at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the hydraulic pump motor is turned on for approximately one half-second. Any malfunction of...
