Bendix Diaphragm System
These units are of the vacuum suspended system. Some units are of the single diaphragm system, while others are of the tandem diaphragm system. Both single piston and double piston or split system master cylinders are used.
The vacuum suspended diaphragm system units utilize engine manifold vacuum and atmospheric pressure for its power. It consists of three basic elements combined into a single power unit. The three basic elements of the single diaphragm system are:

Do not, under any circumstance, clamp driveshaft assembly in jaws of a vise or similar holding fixture. Denting or localized fracturing may result, causing driveshaft failure during vehicle operation. Place driveshaft on a suitable workbench. Do not damage tube.
- Remove driveshaft.
- If components are not marked and therefore installed incorrectly, driveshaft imbalance can occur. Index-mark driveshaft components.
- Remove and discard all 4 of snap rings.
- Place a suitable tool in a vise.
- Position driveshaft slip yoke in a suitable tool.

TPMS Sensor Activation
To conserve battery power, the TPMS sensors will go into a sleep mode after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity. The sensors will not transmit tire pressure information while in sleep mode. The sensors must be activated to transmit the latest tire pressure information.
- Place the ignition switch in the On position.
- Position Ford TPMS activation tool, or equivalent, against the LF tire side wall 180° from the valve stem.
- The TPMS activation tool will flash a green light and sound a beep for each successful response from a TPMS sensor.
