DRIVESHAFT U-JOINT, Replace -> Assemble -> Disassemble
Vehicle: 2009 Saturn VUE Hybrid 2.4 L4 ELECTRIC/GAS
Never clamp propeller shaft tubing in a vise. Clamping could dent or deform the tube causing an imbalance or unsafe condition. Always clamp on one of the yokes and support the shaft horizontally. Avoid damaging the slip yoke sealing surface. Nicks may damage the bushing or cut the lip seal.
Disassemble
- Support propeller shaft in a line horizontal with table of a press.
- Mark propeller shaft in order to show which end connects to transmission and which end goes to rear axle.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove engine splash shield.
- Insert a brass drift or punch between brake rotor cooling fins and brake caliper mounting bracket.
- Remove wheel drive shaft nut, using appropriate size socket and breaker bar.
- Remove wheel drive shaft nut from wheel drive shaft. Once wheel drive shaft nut has been removed, discard and replace with NEW. DO NOT re-use nut.
- Using wheel hub puller tool No. J 42129 or equivalent, separate wheel drive shaft from brake rotor and wheel bearing/hub assembly.

Before removing the propeller shaft from the vehicle, paint or scribe reference marks on the transfer case flange to the propeller shaft flange and the rear differential drive flange to ensure minimal driveline system imbalance.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Mark relationship of front propeller shaft to transfer case drive flange.
- Mark relationship of rear propeller shaft to rear differential yoke.
- Remove mounting bolts and propeller shaft bolts from rear differential drive flange.
