- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Index-mark front driveshaft to front axle flange and at transfer case flange.
- Remove and discard bolts and U-joint retainers.
- Remove and discard four flange bolts.
- Compress and separate front driveshaft from front axle, then separate driveshaft from transfer case. Wrap electrical tape around the bearing cups to prevent them from falling off the U-joint spider.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torque flange bolts to 76 ft. lbs.
- Torque U-joint retainer bolts to 26 ft. lbs., if equipped.

TPMS Sensor Activation
To conserve battery power, the TPMS sensors will go into a sleep mode after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity. The sensors will not transmit tire pressure information while in sleep mode. The sensors must be activated to transmit the latest tire pressure information.
- Place the ignition switch in the On position.
- Position Ford TPMS activation tool, or equivalent, against the LF tire side wall 180 degrees from the valve stem.
- The TPMS activation tool will flash a green light and sound a beep for each successful response from a TPMS sensor.

If a tool is shorted at the starter motor battery terminal, the tool can quickly heat enough to cause a skin burn. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
