On some models built up to 11/1/90, problems with the A/C switch may be indicated. The A/C switch may become loose and push into the heater control assembly. This occurs because the switch retaining clip is broken or missing. The switch either sticks in the depressed position and will not turn Off or will not stay locked in the On position. This occurs because of a faulty detent mechanism inside the switch.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheels and tires.
- Remove wheel bearing lock nut.
- Brake caliper need not be disconnected. Do not twist or stretch brake hose when moving components.
- Remove cotter pin and nut securing lower ball joint to knuckle.
- Strike knuckle with a hammer and pull down transverse link to separate lower ball joint from knuckle.
- Remove tie-rod ball joint.
- Separate drive shaft from knuckle by slightly tapping it. If it is hard to remove, use a puller. When removing drive shaft, cover boots with shop towel to prevent damage to them.
