- On MR2, remove luggage compartment trim cover by removing two clips after disengaging inner part of clip.
- On all models, label, disconnect brake lines using line wrench 09751-36011, or equivalent. Then cap brake lines from master cylinder.
- Disconnect wire connector from brake pressure switch and then disconnect level warning switch connector, if equipped.
- Remove master cylinder to brake unit attaching nuts, then remove master cylinder, wire clamp, gasket and 3-way union, as needed.
- Reverse procedure to install. Bleed brake system.

- Raise and support rear of vehicle them remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove brake drum. If brake drum cannot be removed easily, insert a suitable screwriver through hole in backing plate, then push adjuster lever away from adjuster and back of adjustment tension.

- On models less airbag, disconnect battery ground cable.
- On all models, remove master cylinder as outlined under "Master Cylinder, Replace" in the "Hydraulic Brake System" section.

- Remove front wheel and reinstall lug nuts to locate disc temporarily.
- Check that brake pad thickness is at least .039 inch (1mm). Replace pads if too thin.
- Remove caliper from torque plate and suspend so brake hose is not under tension. Do not disconnect brake hose.
- Refer to Figs. through , and remove the following components:
- Brake pads.
- Anti-squeal shims.
- Pad wear indicator plates.
- Support plates.
- Anti-squeal springs.
- Install new pad support plates.
