Disassemble
- Remove magnetic clutch assembly as described under "Compressor Clutch, Replace."
- Drain compressor oil, then using shaft seal remover tool No. J-33942 or equivalent, remove shaft seal cover, Fig. .
- Remove bolt with gasket, then the front cylinder head by alternately tapping cylinder head projections with a plastic hammer.

IMPULSE & STYLUS
- Open all doors and hood, turn A/C On with blower in position 4.
- Run engine more than 20 minutes with engine speeds between 800 and 1000 RPM.
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Discharge A/C system.
- Remove righthand lower splash shield (under-cover), then disconnect magnetic clutch harness connector, Fig. .
- Remove compressor drive belt by loosening power steering pump bolts, Fig. .
- Disconnect refrigerant line connector, then remove the compressor.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

IMPULSE & STYLUS
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove glove box and instrument panel lower reinforcement.
- Remove resistor connector, then the resistor.
- Reverse procedure to install.
AMIGO & PICKUP
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove trim panels and ducts as needed to gain access to duct between heater and blower units.
- Disconnect wiring harness connector to resistor.
- Remove screws securing resistor, then remove resistor from heater unit.
- Reverse procedure to install.
