Master Cylinder
Front & Rear Split Systems
When the brake pedal is depressed, both the primary (front brake) and the secondary (rear brake) master cylinder pistons are moved simultaneously to exert hydraulic fluid pressure on their respective independent hydraulic systems. The fluid displacement of the two master cylinders is proportioned to fulfill the requirements of each of the two independent hydraulic brake systems.
If a failure of the rear (secondary) brake system should occur, initial brake pedal movement causes the unrestricted secondary piston to bottom in the master cylinder ...

Manual Bleeding
- On models equipped with Rear Wheel Anti-Lock brakes (RWAL), connect one end of a suitable hose to bleeder valve on RWAL hydraulic valve and submerge other end in a glass container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
- Pump brake pedal several times, then hold pedal down firmly.
- With pedal firmly depressed, open bleeder valve until pedal fades to floor, then close bleeder valve.
- Repeat procedure until a continuous flow of brake fluid is released from bleeder valve. Ensure a fluid level is maintained in master cylin...

Brake Drums
Any time the brake drums are removed for brake service, the braking surface diameter should be checked with a suitable brake drum micrometer at several points to determine if they are within the safe oversize limit stamped on the brake drum outer surface. If the braking surface diameter exceeds specifications, the drum must be replaced. If the braking surface diameter is within specifications, drums should be cleaned and inspected for cracks, scores, deep grooves, taper, out of round and heat spotting. If drums are cracked or heat spotted, they must be replaced. Minor scor...

Disc Brakes -> Caravan, Town & Country & Voyager -> Precautions -> Bleeding Brakes -> Brake Disc Service -> Brake Lines & Linings -> Brake Roughness -> General Precautions
Vehicle: 1994 Plymouth Voyager SE 3.3 V6 GAS
Brake Lines & Linings
Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings. The wheel bearings should be inspected at this time and repacked if necessary.
Do not get any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that both front wheel sets be replaced whenever a respective pad is worn or damaged. Inspect and, if necessary, replace rear brake linings also.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
Brake Roughness
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in thickness o...

Manual Bleeding
Perform bleeding procedure first upon left rear wheel, then on right rear, left front and, finally, right front.
- Ensure ignition switch is in Off position, then depressurize hydraulic bladder accumulator as described under "Precautions."
- Connect a clear plastic hose to bleed screw on brake caliper or wheel cylinder, then place other end of hose in a clear glass container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
- Pump brake pedal repeatedly with approximately five seconds between pedal strokes, then depress and hold pedal.

Refer to "Brake Pad Service" for caliper removal and installation procedures.
Disassemble
- Remove caliper from adapter and rotor as outlined under "Brake Pad Service." Do not disconnect brake hose from caliper. Support caliper at all times to prevent brake hose damage.
- Position caliper away from rotor to prevent brake fluid spillage on machined surface, then place a small block of wood between caliper fingers to prevent piston damage during removal.
- Gently depress brake pedal to force caliper piston out of bore, then secure brake pedal at any position below one inch of pedal travel...
