Caliper Removal
- Remove 2/3 of total brake fluid capacity from master cylinder reservoir.
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Install two wheel retaining nuts to retain rotor in position.
- If caliper requires overhaul, remove inlet fitting attaching bolt, then disconnect inlet fitting from caliper housing. Discard both gaskets, then plug openings in inlet fitting and caliper to prevent loss or contamination of fluid. Do not crimp brake hose, as this may damage internal structure of hose.
- Remove circlip (11) and retaining pin (7), Fig. , then pull caliper off...

- Remove pedal pushrod boot, silencer, check valve, vacuum switch and grommets, as equipped, then the front housing seal.
- Scribe matching marks between front and rear housing sections, then mount booster assembly in suitable holding fixture with rear housing facing up.
- Apply pressure to housing with holding fixture forcing screw and rotate rear housing counterclockwise to unlock housing halves.

Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic systems. However, if a pressure bleeder is unavailable, use the following procedure. Brake fluid damages painted surfaces. Immediately clean any spilled fluid.
- Remove vacuum reserve by pumping brakes several times with engine off.
- Fill master cylinder reservoir with clean brake fluid. Check fluid level often during bleeding procedure; do not let reservoir fall below half full.

System Operation
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) with integrated Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) system or Traction Control System (TCS), Fig. , maintains vehicle maneuverability under severe braking conditions on most road surfaces. The ABS/ASR system monitors each wheel speed during braking. The Electronic Brake & Traction Control Module (EBTCM) uses this information to produce signals to prevent the braking wheels from locking.
The modulator valve regulates brake fluid pressure based on road conditions as interpreted by the EBTCM, regardless of master cylinder output pressure....
