Brake Pedal Height

The brake pedal should be at the same height as clutch pedal. Ensure distance between brake booster mounting surface (with gasket) and pushrod clevis pin hole is as follows:

  • On Samurai models, 4.94-4.98 inches (125.5-126.5 mm)
  • On 1993-95 Sidekick models, 6.60-6.64 inches (167.6-168.6 mm)
  • On Swift models, 4.51-4.54 inches (114.5-115.5 mm).

  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove approximately 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder.
  • Raise and support vehicle.
  • Mark relationship between front wheel and axle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
  • If caliper assembly is to be serviced, remove inlet fitting attaching bolt, copper washer, and inlet fitting from caliper housing. Plug opening in inlet fitting to prevent fluid loss and contamination. Do not crimp brake hose, as this may damage internal structure of hose. Inspection

The hydraulic lines of this brake system are based on a diagonal split system. When a brake line or hose is disconnected, bleeding operation must be performed at both ends of the line disconnected.

Prior to bleeding brakes, both front and rear displacement cylinder pistons must be returned to the top-most or home position. Motor re-home cannot be performed if current diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are present. If DTC's are present, vehicle must be repaired and DTC's cleared before performing the motor rehome function.
