- Raise and support vehicle
- Remove wheel center cap.
- Remove rear wheel assembly. Ensure parking brake lever is not pulled up.
- Increase the clearance between brake shoe and drum by removing parking brake shoe lever return spring, then disconnect parking brake cable joint from parking brake shoe lever, Fig. .
- Remove parking brake shoe lever stopper plate, Fig. .
- Remove drum to axle hub attaching bolts, then using slide hammer tool No. 09942-15510, or equivalent, and brake drum remover tool No. 09943-35511, or equivalent, pull off brake drum.

The hydraulic lines of this brake system are based on a diagonal split system. When a brake line or hose is disconnected, bleeding operation must be performed at both ends of the line disconnected.
Prior to bleeding brakes, both front and rear displacement cylinder pistons must be returned to the top-most or home position. Motor re-home cannot be performed if current diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are present. If DTC's are present, vehicle must be repaired and DTC's cleared before performing the motor rehome function. - Remove caliper anti-rattle clip, Figs. and .
- Remove caliper guide pin caps.
- Using a 6 mm Allen wrench, remove caliper guide pins.
- Remove pad protectors, then the caliper cylinder.
- Remove brake pads.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Tighten caliper bolts to specification.
- Install wheel assemblies.
- Lower vehicle and perform brake test.

- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Remove approximately 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Mark relationship between front wheel and axle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
- If caliper assembly is to be serviced, remove inlet fitting attaching bolt, copper washer, and inlet fitting from caliper housing. Plug opening in inlet fitting to prevent fluid loss and contamination. Do not crimp brake hose, as this may damage internal structure of hose.
