- Connect suitable pressure gauge or reclaim/recycle equipment to discharge side of compressor, then attach clamp-on thermocouple part No. P.S.E. 66-324-0014, 80PK-1A or equivalent, to liquid line as shown in Fig. It must be attached as close to condenser as possible to read liquid line temperature.
- With transaxle in Park and engine idling at 700 RPM, set air conditioning controls as follows:

The shaft seal should not be replaced if only small amounts of oil are noted on adjacent surfaces. The shaft seal should only be replaced if a large amount of sprayed oil is observed, and then only after actual refrigerant leakage is found using an approved leak test procedure.
Removal
- Recover refrigerant as outlined under >, then remove compressor drive belt.
- Reposition compressor, as needed, to gain access to clutch assembly and seal, or remove compressor and mount in suitable holding fixture.

Removal
- Recover refrigerant as outlined under >, then loosen and reposition compressor in brackets.
- Remove clutch plate and hub as outlined under "Compressor Clutch Service."
- Remove shaft seal retaining ring.
- Clean inside of compressor neck area around shaft and seal seat to prevent damage to compressor from entry of dirt.
- Place seal protector tool No. J-33021, or equivalent, over end of shaft to avoid chipping ceramic seat. Engage knurled tangs of seal seat remover/installer tool No. J-23128-A, or equivalent, into recessed portion of seal seat by turning handle clockwise. Remove s...

This procedure must be performed if the BCM, Passlock sensor or PCM is replaced. If BCM is not properly programmed, it will not control all the features properly.
- Ensure battery is fully charged and ignition switch is in the ON position.
