Never clamp propeller shaft tubing In a vise. Clamping could dent or deform tube causing an Imbalance or unsafe condition. Always clamp on one of yokes and support shaft horizontally. Avoid damaging slip yoke sealing surface. Nicks may damage bushing or cut lip seal.
Disassemble
- Place universal joint so that lower ear of yoke is supported on a 30 mm (1 1/8 inch) socket.

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove bolts from U-joint brackets at differential end of driveshaft.
- Lower differential end of driveshaft enough to clear differential.
- Place a suitable container under output shaft of transmission.
- Push driveshaft slightly forward towards transmission.
- Pull driveshaft rearward towards differential and remove from vehicle.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting following:

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Mark rear universal joint to drive shaft flange.
- Remove retaining bolts and clamps.
- Remove propeller shaft from pinion drive flange.
- Remove propeller shaft from transmission/transfer case.
- Using tape or a rubber band, wrap the U-Joint bearing caps to ensure bearing caps do not separate from U-Joint.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Align reference marks made during removal.
- Torque yoke retainer bolts to 18 ft. lbs.
