- Press off dust cap
- Insert 1.1025 inches thick metal segment (brake disc section) into fixed caliper and carefully force pistons out against stop with compressed air.
- Remove piston using piston-turning pliers tool No. 000 589 50 37 00, or equivalent.
- Remove piston seal from groove in cylinder bore.
Inspection
- If piston is stuck or there are scores or rusted bores, replace complete caliper.
- Remove deposits on piston with soft brass wire brush or rough cloth only. If there is noticeable damage to chrome plating, replace piston.

ABS systems with ASR or ETS may only be inspected using Hand-Held Tester (HHT) tool No. 965 589 00 01 00, or equivalent scan tool.

- Disconnect wear sensor connector.
- On 1995 models without cam on housing, remove lower mounting bolt, steady sliding pin and fold sliding caliper up. Do not move steering wheel while housing if folded out.
- On 1996-99 models with cam on housing, remove lower mounting bolt, steady sliding pin and remove floating caliper, securing with suitable hook.
- On all models, inspect boots for damage and replace as required.
- Remove brake pads.
- Remove some brake fluid from reservoir.
- Pull wear sensor out of lining back plate.
- Push piston back...
