- Drain cooling system into suitable container until radiator coolant level is below thermostat.
- Remove radiator hose at coolant outlet.
- Remove thermostat housing mounting bolts and ground wire, if applicable.
- Remove thermostat housing, thermostat and gasket.

However, on most applications, compressor clutch components can be serviced without removing compressor or recovering refrigerant from system. If refrigerant recovery becomes necessary, refer to > for procedure.
To prevent serious internal compressor damage, when removing or installing clutch components, never apply pressure directly to the compressor shaft. Always use a suitable shaft protector.
