When the brake pedal is depressed, both the primary (front brake) and the secondary (rear brake), master cylinder pistons are moved simultaneously to exert hydraulic fluid pressure on their respective independent hydraulic systems. These vehicles are equipped with a fully automatic adjustment mechanism. In the event of brake shoe replacement the following initial adjustment procedure must be completed prior to driving the vehicle.
- Ensure parking brake lever is fully released.
- Depress brake pedal as far as possible 2-3 times. This will cause automatic adjuster to correctly adjust rear brakes.
- Apply and release park brake lever one time after service brakes have been adjusted.

Any time the brake drums are removed for brake service, the braking surface diameter should be inspected with a suitable brake drum micrometer at several points to determine if they are within the safe oversize limit stamped on the brake drum outer surface. If the braking surface diameter exceeds specifications, the drum must be replaced.
