Two basic types of power assist mechanisms are used: vacuum assist diaphragm assemblies, which use engine vacuum or, in some cases vacuum pressure developed by an external vacuum pump. Before performing any repairs on the ABS system, note the following precautions:
- Before using electric welding equipment, disconnect EBTCM.
- Carefully note routing, position and mounting ABS and TCS wiring, connectors, clips and brackets. ABS and TCS are extremely sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
- Do not use a fast charger when battery is connected. Never disconnect battery from system with engine running.
- Ignition switch must be in Off position when disconnecting EBTCM.
