Brake System Bleed
Except 1997 Ranger
Refer to "Hydraulic Brake Systems" for bleeding procedure.
1997 Ranger
Perform this procedure only if the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) has been replaced.
- Perform conventional brake system bleed procedure.
- Connect bleeder box tool No. T90T-50-ALA and brake jumper cable tool No. T93T-50-ALA, or equivalents.
- Press down on brake pedal and depress "VALVES" button on bleeder box. Pedal will fall.
- Release "VALVES" button, then release the brake pedal.
- Repeat preceding two steps.
- Depress "MOTOR START" button and let pump motor run for one minute.

- Remove air cleaner housing, if required.
- Remove brake master cylinder attaching nuts.
- Position brake master cylinder aside.
- Disconnect booster vacuum hose.
- Disconnect power distribution box auxiliary relay and set aside.
- Remove fuse panel cover.
- Remove stop lamp switch self-locking pin.
- Remove stop lamp switch and brake booster pushrod from brake pedal pin.
- Remove power brake booster nuts.
- Remove power brake booster.
- Reverse procedure to install. Torque booster mounting nuts to 16-21 ft. lbs.

Bleed primary and secondary hydraulic brake systems separately, bleeding the longest line first on each system. Do not allow reservoir to run dry during bleeding operation. Never use fluid that has been drained from the hydraulic system. Ensure proper bleed sequence is followed.
